Grebenzen in summer: gondola views and a family mountain day

Start in St. Lambrecht and choose between play, meadow paths and a longer walk across the Grebenzen heights.

A different mountain rhythm

The Grebenzen summer area above St. Lambrecht combines a cable-car ascent with walking and family attractions. This makes it a useful Murau-region choice for a group that does not want everyone committed to the same demanding hike. Our editorial suggestion is to agree on one shared mountain pause, then choose the day’s walking ambition according to the group.

What the gondola changes

The operator places the panoramic gondola’s upper station at 1,654 metres. From there, the mountain is still a landscape to explore on foot, rather than a completed summit visit. The short published summit option reaches GrebenzenHöhe at 1,870 metres and returns to the station. The operator estimates about one and a half hours for that walking circuit.

A mountain for curious children

The summer offer lists Kraxlland, Jumporama and the Escape to Nature puzzle trail, alongside climbing, sliding and play elements. Choose activities that fit the children’s age and energy rather than promising that every attraction will suit everyone. A useful day can alternate play with looking at the mountain surroundings, so adults also have time to enjoy the scenery.

Understand the three heights

The longer operator itinerary links the first, second and third Grebenzen heights before returning via Scharfes Eck. Its reference walking time is around three and a half hours, making it a separate choice from the shorter station-based outing. The operator warns that Wildes Loch is unsecured; do not treat that optional feature as a casual family detour.

A suggested easygoing day

Our suggestion is to ascend, take a short exploratory walk, settle into a meal or snack pause and leave time for the family attractions before descending. The operator also advertises a bookable gondola breakfast on selected dates, but it needs its own reservation and current programme check. You do not need a special event booking to appreciate the landscape.

Plan for an operating day

At our 20 October 2026 check, the published regular summer gondola programme ran only through 13 September 2026. This article therefore does not imply an October service. Check the next relevant timetable, weather restrictions, attraction availability and last descent directly with the operator. Choose a ticket only after matching the walking plan to the actual lift operating window.
