Wildpark Mautern: a longer family excursion from Murau

Plan animals, the children’s farm and mountain transport as one unhurried regional day.

Choose a full excursion

Der Wilde Berg in Mautern is a larger regional excursion rather than a quick stop beside Murau. Choose it when the family wants an animal-focused day and is comfortable with a longer journey. Plan the outward and return routes before adding other attractions; an unhurried visit is more useful than a crowded itinerary.

Start with the park plan

The operator combines an alpine wildlife park with play areas and a children’s farm. Look at the park map together and select a small number of priorities. Start with whichever animal presentation or feeding you most want to see, using that day’s programme rather than assuming every activity runs continuously.

Meeting farm animals

The Kinderbauernhof is officially confirmed, including a walk-in goat area. This gives children a different experience from observing wild animals behind barriers. Follow staff instructions on contact and feeding, let animals move away, and wash hands before eating. Bring questions about the animals rather than food from your picnic.

Allow time for play

Do not spend all the available energy on the first enclosures. The Kinder-Stadl provides indoor play, while the wider park also offers outdoor play opportunities. Make a meal or rest stop a deliberate part of the route. Parents with children of different ages can agree which activity matters most to each child.

Weather and practical choices

The park is on a mountain, so consider footwear, layers and the forecast even when Murau feels warm. The operator lists a chairlift and park bus as transport options. Ask which option suits your pushchair or mobility needs; do not assume that a ride makes every path step-free or every attraction suitable.

Before leaving Murau

Check the current opening calendar, live operating report and transport arrangements before departure. This is a seasonal destination, and dated autumn notices do not guarantee access on a future holiday. If the main reason for travelling is a feeding, animal encounter or particular ride, confirm that feature directly before committing the family to the journey.
